Morel Mushroom Spore Kit and Soil Prep
05:15
This video shows me, an unskilled male, preparing a soil preparation for a 'fire morel' mushroom spore kit. I mix the ingredients, include burn wood and ash, and spread it at the mushroom bed site. The mushroom spore kit is from a supplier in Western Washington. See more at my website, mymorels.com. You will not see any morel mushrooms yet because the bed and spore kit is in its infancy.

Natural Pest Control

I noticed that some of my Poppy seed head had an infestation of Black Aphids. Since this year I decided to garden without commercial insecticides I've been rounding up th ladybugs in my garden and moving them to plants that had insect infestations. Here I moved a ladybug so it could eat the black aphids I found so I wouldn't have to resort to a bug spray. This video will accompany a blog entry on this subject along with before and after photos.

Time Lapse Radish Seeds Sprouting, Top and Roots Growing
00:45
Time lapse sequence shot using Pentax K110D and Harbortronics DigiSnap 2100 set to take a frame each 14 minutes 24 seconds. The time lapse spans 9 days. Two 90 watt compact floresecent lights where used for both the camera shooting light and the grow lights. The lights were set on a timer for 18 hours on and 6 off (for the health of the plants). The jump in the video is the 6 hour gap in the darkness. Amazing how fast the radishes grew. Music by Roland White - Gaieté Acadienne [CD-Trying to Get to You]. Hope you enjoy.

SEA OF GREEN
Sea of Green (SOG) is the theory of harvesting lots of small plants, matured early to get the fastest production of buds available. Instead of growing a few plants for a longer period of time, in the same space many smaller plants are grown that mature faster and in less time. Thus, less time is required between crops. This is important to you when the electricity bill comes each month. One crop can be started while another is maturing, and a continuous harvest, year round can be maintained. 4 plants per square foot will be a good start for seedlings. 1 plant per square foot will allow plenty of room for each plant to grow a large top cola, but will not allow for much bottom branching. This is OK since indoors, these bottom branches are always shaded anyway, and will not grow very well unless given additional light and space. The indoor grower quickly realizes that plants that are too tall do not produce enough at the bottom to make the extra growing time used worth while. An exception to this rule would be if it is intended the plants are to go outside at some point, and it is expected that the light/shading issue will not be a factor at that point.
The plants, if started at the same time, should create what is called a green canopy that traps most of the light at the top level of the plants. Little light will penetrate below this level, since the plants are so close together. The gardener is attempting to concentrate on the top of the plant, and use the light and space to the best advantage, in as little time as possible. Use of nylon poultry fence or similar trellising laid out over the green canopy will support the plants as they start to droop under the weight of heavy fruiting tops. Stakes can be used too, but are not as easy to install for plants in the middle and back of the room, where reach is more difficult.
Its easy to want big plants, since they will produce more yield per plant, but its usually better with limited space to grow smaller plants that mature faster and pack into smaller spaces. Sea of Green was developed in Holland. Instead of fitting 4 large plants in that small room, fit 12 small ones on a shelf above 12 other small plants. These plants take only 3-4 months to mature from germination to ripe buds, and harvesting takes place constantly, since there is both a vegetative and flowering area devoted to each, with harvests every 45-60 days.
It's not the size of the plant, but the maturity and quality of the product that counts. Twice as many plants grown half as big will fill the grow space twice as fast, so harvests take place almost twice as often. Get good at picking early flowering plants, and propagate only those that are of the best quality.
6 square containers will allow for 4 plants per square foot. You may also gauge by the size of your growing tray (for passive hydroponics); I like kitty litter boxes. ($3 each at Target) Planted 4 per square foot, (for vegatative seedlings) a 12 sq. ft. closet will hold 48 seedlings on one shelf. In my case, I use 4 rockwool cubes that fit into kitty litter pans @ 12 cubes per pan. I can get 5 pans onto a 12 sq. ft. closet upper shelf, so that is 60 seedlings on one small shelf!
For flowering indoors, 1 plant per sq. ft. is a good rule of thumb for SOG. If less plants are grown in this size space, it will take them longer to fill the space, thus more electricity and time will be used to create the same amount of product. If more than one plant p.s.f. is attempted, the grower will soon find that plants thus crowded tend to be more stem than bud, and the total harvest may be reduced, so be cautious.
It's good to avoid topping your plants if you want them to grow as fast as possible. It's better just to grow 2 or 4 times more plants, since they will produce more, faster, in the same space. Also, training plants with twist-ties is a great way to get them to bush out a bit. Just take any type of plastic or paper twist tie and wrap it around the top of the plant, then pull it over until the top is bent over 90-180 degrees and then attach this to the main stem lower on the plant. Do this for one week and then release the plant from it's bond. The plant can be trained in this fashion to take less vertical space and to grow bushier, to fill the grow space and force lower limbs to grow upward and join the green canopy.

Detecting Female and Male Marijuana Plants
02:52
If you put the light back to 12 hours the plant will go in flowering stage , so you can add the flower fertilizers to the water ( just do halve the dose it says on the bottle , just water them with normal water , than the next time with fertilizers , water , fertilezers. ( Just look at the plants leaves if they are nice and green , nobrown points or curled points ( meaning to much fertilizers or water)
Let the dirt from 2 cm of the top get very dry , than water them ( and again after 10 minutes , best way , she will take it all up!!( 24c water)
Do not cut any leaves cause they are the lungs of the plant.
MAKE SURE TO GIVE ONLY CLEAR CLEAN WATER THE LAST 4 WEEKS OF FLOWERING , because otherwise your weed will taste like it :P
If everything is done , just cut of the biggest leaves and cut it from the bottom and hang the whole plant from hur bottom in a totally dark room at 20-24cfor 3 - 4 weeks with a bit circulation of fresh air .

Compost Making 1
00:36
Making Garden Compost in Alberta, Canada. Making good compost and good wine have a lot in common. Both involve creating a friendly environment for micro organisms. It is important that fresh air be drawn into the compost pile on a continuing basis. This is achieved by making a "chimney" for exhaust gases in the middle of the compost pile by using a stick that is wiggled to create space for the escaping gases

Fertilizer
Cannabis plants like lots of food, but you can do damage to the plants if you are too zealous. Some fertilizers can burn a plant
and damage its roots if used in to high a concentration. Most commercial soil will have enough nutrients in it to sustain the
plant for about three weeks of growth so you don't need to worry about feeding your plant until the end of the third week. The most important thing to remember is to introduce the fertilizer concentration to the plant gradually. Start with a fairly diluted fertilizer solution and gradually increase the dosage. There are several good cannabis fertilizers on the commercial market, two of which are Rapid-Gro and Eco-Grow. Rapid-Gro has had widespread use in cannabis cultivation and is available in most parts of the United States. Eco-Grow is also especially good for cannabis since it contains an ingredient that keeps the soil from becoming acid. Most fertilizers cause a ph change in the soil. Adding fertilizer to the soil almost always results in a more acidic ph.
As time goes on, the amount of salts produced by the breakdown of fertilizers in the soil causes the soil to become
increasingly acidic and eventually the concentration of these salts in the soil will stunt the plant and cause browning out of
the foliage. Also, as the plant gets older its roots become less effective in bringing food to the leaves. To avoid the
accumulation of these salts in your soil and to ensure that your plant is getting all of the food it needs you can begin leaf
feeding your plant at the age of about 1.5 months. Dissolve the fertilizer in worm water and spray the mixture directly onto the foliage. The leaves absorb the fertilizer into their veins. If you want to continue to put fertilizer into the soil as well as
leaf feeding, be sure not to overdose your plants.
Remember to increase the amount of food your plant receives gradually. Cannabis seems to be able to take as much fertilizer as you want to give it as long as it is introduced over a period of time. During the first three months or so, fertilize your plants every few days. As the rate of foliage growth slows down in the plant's preparation for blooming and seed production, the fertilizer intake of the plant should be slowed down as well. Never fertilize the plant just before you are going to harvest it since the fertilizer will encourage foliage production and slow down resin production. A word here about the most organic of fertilizers: worm castings. As you may know, worms are raised commercially for sale to gardeners. The breeders put the worms in organic compost mixtures and while the worms are reproducing they eat the organic matter and expel some of the best cannabis food around. After the worms have eaten all the organic matter in the compost, they are removed and sold and the remains are then sold as worm castings. These castings are so rich that you can grow cannabis in straight worm castings. This isn't really necessary however, and it is somewhat impractical since the castings are very expensive. If you can afford them you can, however, blend them in with your soil and they will make a very
good organic fertilizer.

How to Build a Basic Indoor Weed Grow Room - Step by Step Construction Guide 1 of 9
09:27

Indoor Marijuana - Super Lemon Haze - part 6
03:46
Update: Starting week 5 of flowering. The Super Lemon Haze plants are tied down and very stretchy with small flowers due to the Sativa influence, but the smoke should be well worth it. The Blue Hash is developing large, sticky colas. About 3 more weeks and it comes down. The auto Roadrunner was harvested weeks ago. Approximately 1 dry ounce. Very good quality. Tasted like a bouquet of flowers and knocked out all who came near it. :)/n---/nStrains:

The Advanced Vermi Composting Facility
04:03
Worldwide and especially in Europe, research on earthworms, worm compost and vermicomposting is dramatically increasing. This is shown e.g. in scientific congress like CODIS 2008 in Switzerland.
Although the scientific community has shown good results in the use of worm products, there is nearly no modern system in Europe, which can produce large amounts of vermicompost. The Austrian VermiGrand earthworm farm has developed the advanced vermicomposting facility VERMIC 3.2. This system is a modular continuous flow vermicomposting system, which uses completely new methods for feeding and harvesting. The system can be heated, cooled and watered automatically, what makes it capable for use at wide temperature ranges. The VermiGrand earthworm farm does offer licences for this knowledge based system now worldwide. You can make best organic fertilizer with great value in large quantity. Use the ADVANCED VERMICOMPOSTING FACILITY ver. 3.2 and profit yourself from low investment and labor costs. Invest in a booming business line now and save years of self development and learning by doing!

How to Tell the Difference Between a Male and Female 7 of 7
09:00
Without light, the plants cannot grow. In the countries in which cannabis grows best, the sun is the source of light. The amount of light and the length of the growing season in these countries results in huge tree-like plants. In most parts of
North America, however, the sun is not generally intense enough for long enough periods of time to produce the same size and quality of plants that grow with ease in Latin America and other tropical countries. The answer to the problem of lack of sun, especially in the winter months, shortness of the growing season, and other problems is to grow indoor under simulated conditions. The rule of thumb seems to be the more light, the better. In one experiment we know of, eight eight-foot VHO Gro-Lux fixtures were used over eight plants. The plants grew at an astonishing rate. The lights had to be raised every day. There are many types of artificial light and all of them do different things to your plants. The common incandescent light bulb emits some of the frequencies of light the plant can use, but it also emits a high percentage of far red and infra-red light which cause the plant to concentrate its growth on the stem. This results in the plant stretching toward the light bulb until it becomes so tall and spindly that it just weakly topples over. There are several brands of bulb type. One is the incandescent plant spot light which emits higher amounts of red and blue light than the common light bulb. It is an improvement, but has it drawbacks. it is hot, for example, and cannot be placed close to the plants. Consequently, the plant has to stretch upwards again and is in danger of becoming elongated and falling over. The red bands of light seem to encourage stem growth which is not desirable in growing cannabis. the idea is to encourage foliage growth for obvious reasons. Gro-Lux lights are probably the most common fluorescent plant lights. In our experience with them, they have
proven themselves to be extremely effective. They range in size from one to eight feet in length so you can set up a growing room in a closet or a warehouse. There are two types of Gro-Lux lights: The standard and the wide spectrum. They can be used in conjunction with on another, but the wide spectrum lights are not sufficient on their own. The wide spectrum lights were designed as a supplementary light source and are cheaper than the standard lights. Wide spectrum lights emit the same bands of light as the standard but the standard emit higher concentrations of red and blue bands that the plants need to grow. The wide spectrum lights also emit infra-red, the effect of which on stem growth we have already discussed. If you are planning to grow on a large scale, you might be interested to know that the regular flourescent lamps and fixtures, the type that are used in commercial lighting, work well when used along with standard Gro- Lux lights. These commercial lights are called cool whites, and are the cheapest of the flourescent lights we have mentioned. They emit as much blue light as the Gro-Lux standards and the blue light is what the plants use in foliage growth.
