Description:
Tomatos Growing In A Flowerpot/nI had a tomato last winter and saved the seeds in a container in the fridge till spring/summer. These were planted late around the beginning of July. There is two plants in a large flowerpot, about 6 or 7 inches apart for room to grow and prevent their roots form inter-tangling. It's has not been a good summer (2009) for some crops, maby have be stunted by the lack of sunlight and abundance of rain, and even cool weather. Each plant only has one tomato on it, unless something else happened to the plants./nIf you grow tomato plants in a flower pot I reccomend only planting two (or taking out any more than that) in to prevent overcrowding. Actually these were transplanted from a smaller flower pot(s) once they were growing good, about two or three inches tall./nI heard its good to have water drainage, so the pots have the standard holes in theh bottom. They seem take atleast about 8 oz of water a day it seems, or sometimes more - some drains out of the pot, and some evaporates../nDue to our location, they only get the sunlight in the mornings to about noon, but that might be good for tomato plants to prevent them from drying out./nI did not sprout these seeds using this technique that some people use, which is good:/nPut seeds inside a wet paper towl folded over , and put that into a plastic baggie to prevent it from drying out. I guess when they first start to germinate, then put them in some dirt. Thats all I know of the process. My method of this would be to use a teaspoon of dirt also in the mix./nI seen some farms where plastic is employed to prevent evaporation of water at the bottom of plants, often tomatos, so it can be a good idea to cover the soil with a piece of platic wrap if you live in a very dry location, but then again, you dont want to keep removing and replacing the cover to water the plant(s) since it can injure the plants. Maby some wiz will suggest some good ideas. Perhaps smaller pieces of plasic, or thin flat rocks or glass is a solution./nIt was cold out during the night (even though it's summer here still), so I brought the tomato plants inside to stay warmer, so that's why I made the video inside./nI reccomend sprouting your tomatoes in about late May or at the beginning of June, but it depends on where you live, etc due to various climate conditions.
